How Dangerous Are AI-Generated Images?

With the rise of AI being incorporated into our daily life, seemingly making them more efficient and effectively easier, it’s normal to feel worried about the risks they may present. The image shown above can easily be perceived as real, and photos like this could potentially lead to fraud or other issues.

It’s normal to wonder what exactly are AI-generated images, and how they are created and further refined. As with normal chatbots, like ChatGPT, they’re trained with tons of information and recognizing patterns to form their own sentences and responses. It doesn’t differ for image generation, except they are trained with images this time. They can recognize how images look and what makes them realistic. They can recognize color and shape and make images like the one at the top of this article.

As I briefly mentioned in the introduction, fraud and misunderstandings can be created due to AI representations of images. They can easily be used to create fake profiles and spread false information, kind of like more advanced deepfakes.

AI can also generate videos and this sprouts a different form of danger, as it makes false content seem so much more believable than if it was just a photo being shown. It can also influence false narratives.

There are risks, but I do think the generation of AI images is more helpful than harmful. AI images can also automate processes like designs and can be a more effective option for making an image on your own. To safely use them, precaution is necessary.

To counteract the issue of fake images created by AI, detection is getting better. With detection, even though humans can’t recognize minimal differences, the AI will eventually be able to spot the smallest difference in details between normal images captured by hand and images made by AI.

To conclude, AI is a tool that can revolutionize the world in so many aspects but necessary precaution has to happen so it doesn’t contribute negatively. We can work together to use it for good, and not try to corrupt the gift of it.
